Service Design projects - 3rd semester

1) Rescue hotline App - Interaction Design case study

Let me introduce double area expansion of communication and connectivity in crisis situations and natural disasters using interaction design.

As a Telco Network Experience Expert and Insurance Customer Journey Maping professional I did my best to design possible scenarios and Interaction design solution - both user (crisis) experience and technical. Feel free to download full format of this case study.

Crisis situations, such as floods, fires or other natural disasters, place enormous demands on the ability of residents to respond quickly and effectively to protect their lives, health and property and not endanger others by their actions.

The situation in North Moravia during the 2024 floods demonstrated the importance of a robust and resilient communications infrastructure for effective emergency management. A mobile application focused on providing crisis information and ensuring communication can be a key tool for reducing risks and protecting lives and property using USSD codes as a game changer for the communication when unavailable common Telco infrastructure.

2) Customer Journey Mapping - providing online lecture and sharing presentation

It was my big pleasure to participate as a guest lecturer online to my 23 university classmates. I share how I handle CJM and prepare for the class also theory. The topic was Growth hacking through Customer Journey Mapping because CJM helps identify gaps between customer needs, expectations, and actual experiences.

You can find the whole presentation online, feel free to download.

3) Improving Mikro Teatro visitors experience

This project is currently being worked on in team of two with Lukáš Pazderka

The aim of the project was to design and improve the visitor experience in a cultural institution by customer journey mapping and blueprint methodology. Focus on the overall visitor journey, from planning the visit, to interacting with the institution, to post-visit feedback.

We identify problem areas and propose solutions that will create a more engaging, accessible, or innovative visitor experience as is described in the final presentation.

4) VR Design

Third semester with VR has reach a point where I can deliver first 3D own work. My idea was to build Hi-Fi Audio room.

Idea is you can control the music and sound while sitting in a nice comfortable sofa as in a moodboard scenario. As an extra, when you will change music style, the whole room around you will change:

As a basic I used Shapes XR and Blender online software and lot of inspiration from Free 3D models from open source libraries to use and modify. Everything connected to Meta Quest 2 VR headset for real immersive experience in close coordination from my laptop and mobile phone. You can follow for detailed model in VR with following code: A 9 A S D 9 A 1 - also you can look into my presentation how is this VR project done and an article with all project details on Medium.com

5) Cool ideas for Cooler future - team work on AI fridge Orava project using Figma prototyping

No one alone can work and finish challenging multidisciplinary projects - honouring the exceptions. Team work was this semester another cool content of university studies.

Our assignment:

The team at Orava has developed a Smart Refrigerator that uses AI for food recognition and recipe recommendations. Imagine that you are a digital innovation team tasked with creating a mobile "companion" application for this refrigerator.

Business Goals to meet:

  • An application with features that increase the added value of the refrigerator itself. (More people will buy the hardware)
  • Added premium features (Ancillary revenue).

We benchmarked the market, made a brand positioning for our product prototype of AI fridfe for typical family of nine!  We continued with a 2 hours workshop, learning how to define "Jobs To Be Done" facilitated by excelent Petr Šiko. Afterthen we prepared project flowcart and Ondřej Konečný with Lukáš Pazderka finished it with professional Figma prototype regarding teams requests.

No big and bigger challenges can overwhelm our team! Here is the result of the AI interactive display controls thanks to our system design and short AI prototype video to imagine how cool can be future with our Orava fridge.

5) Websites accessibility check

We can imagine digital accessibility as the creation of digital products (websites, mobile applications, documents, multimedia) that can be used by the widest possible group of users, regardless of their abilities, permanent or temporary disabilities, or the situation they are currently in.

Accessible digital content should, for example:

  • Be easily operable using only a keyboard,

  • Be compatible with assistive technologies (screen readers, braille displays, voice control, content magnification or other adaptations, etc.),

  • Offer alternative ways to access and "consume" the content—such as text alternatives for graphical elements, subtitles or audio descriptions for multimedia, translation into Czech Sign Language, etc.,

  • Be clear and understandable.

My project was to investigate and prepare mini audit compatible with WCAG 2.2 standards for the webpages Mikro Teatro. You can find the full analysis here with the cookbook and sources how I made it

Did you know?

6 most common mistakes but easy to remove are:
- Low contrast text
- Missing alternative image descriptions
- Missing descriptions of fields in forms
- Links without labels
- Buttons without labels
- Missing page language definition

What I have learned so far during 3rd semester

In order to best prepare the groundwork for my projects this semester, benchmark available solutions and research, In Interaction design project I was inspired by an article on how to design a crisis UX, which helped me understand how to more effectively design a service for critical situations.

I was also inspired and literaly grounded by a conference on creating text to video AI with practical demonstrations on how to create it during the Prague's Czech International AI Film Festival 2024  in December. It came just after November's month full of public AI conferences and lectures www.mesic.ai I totally can reccomend to all designers.

Here I see huge potential not only for service designers and small work teams to generate affordable and effective audiovisual presentations and materials at the level of large crews or marketing agencies at a fraction of the cost and technical effort.

Anyway during the 3rd semester I have learned at least two dozens new software solutions from AI, Customer Journey Mapping, Designing protoypes and add dozen of international LinkedIn channels specialized for Service Design and connect with great experts in this field. I am grateful for that interactions and I plan further sprint.
